Well,it's got to be about far more than football.
this isn't really a football issue. If he plays on the team in 2019, whatever. I really don't care.
If he's guilty, he does need to get a clear message that our society won't tolerate that behavior.
I remember being in the U of U hospital while my brother was connected to machines keeping him alive. It was an awful night. It felt like an awful dream. Then I learned that the driver was drunk and I got angry. I needed to grieve, but the anger ruined it for me that night.
That was August 26th, 1995. It was only two weeks after what was probably the most publicized DUI case in the history of the state of Utah. A 16 year-old kid had driven drunk and killed two girls as they walked down a sidewalk. Any adult living in SLC at the time would have heard about it over and over again. A guy in SLC would need to be unbelievably brazen to drink and drive during that time. Regardless, it happened and my brother was brain dead.
A few days later, the anger got worse. Not only had this guy chosen to be unaffected by what was in the news seemingly constantly, but he had also been unaffected by multiple past DUI offenses. At the time, it would have been better if I'd never learned about his previous record. Laws let my family down. Law enforcement let my family down. The "I haven't killed anyone yet so it's not a big deal" attitude let my family down and my brother was dead.
Football is secondary. I don't care if he plays football or if he doesn't play football. I do, however, care that he learns to stop drinking and driving before he kills someone.

Class B misdemeanor if it's a first offense. Personally I think it should be a felony but it isn't currently.
