They don't belong to a P5 conference, but they were in the playoff last year. Not all Indy teams are equal.
Notre Dame COULD join any P5 conference- if they wanted- by the end of this week. Their brand is superior to at least 125/130 CFB programs. They WANT to remain Independent.
BYU is not in the same position. The BYU brand is better than most G5 programs, and some P5, but they are at best a Top-40 program.
