I'll concede the no-HC for just players thing (reasoning see above.)
As for conference titles USU did win it in 2012. They won their division in 2013 as well. Utah just recently won their division. I simply was trying to think of commonly accepted metrics for success.
And it is true that BYU may not see the MW or AAC as adding value yet. However, when people use TV deals as why the MW or AAC is not good enough, it should be noted that those numbers are likely to change with the addition of BYU.
