currently designed to keep teams outside of the P5 conferences out. Don't confuse a NY6 bowl invite with playoff spots. That being said Utah's first BCS run was similar in the fact that the BCS system was originally designed to keep out non BCS teams. But after Utah broke though the rules changed allowing greater access for non BCS conferences. I'm not saying Utah didn't or wouldn't have earned their second appearance. Clearly the would have. At this point a non BCS conference member was being invited annually. However, it is pretty clear that even with a magical season BYU would likely not make a Playoff spot. We would have to go undefeated for at least two seasons for this to happen if not more. See Central Florida. Given our current schedules, an NY6 invitation is possible but likely our ceiling until BYU gets into a P5 conference.
