Slurking back? We have never been a P5
I have been a rabid fan for decades. I used to sneak into the chapel late at night in Texas to watch the satellite feed. I joined the cougar club many years ago and traveled to games all over the country. I subscribed to recruiting services and know/have known current and former players. In other words, I know the program as well as almost anyone.
Contrary to my hopes and aspirations for the program, in this time I have never honestly witnessed what I consider to be a P5 program. There have been some competitive teams, but UCF, Houston, Boise and others can say the same. We simply don’t have the financial commitment, talent, or campus lifestyle to ever make that likely. I am in academia and have heard from enough non BYU genuine administrative insiders at other schools to believe BYU has become a social pariah that will never be invited to join a P5.
I may consider joining MWC a “slink back” in some ways, but the current AAC would be a conference upgrade from where we have ever been or where we are ever likely to be. That’s my opinion. You are entitled to your own and I respect that.
