I don't think your scenario is even really close to what happens with this.
1) it's not likely DNA alone will convict a person. They have to have more evidence than that.
2) the technique basically just helps narrow down the field. They have the suspects DNA but have no idea who they are. So they use this technique to narrow down who it possibly could be by genetics and then have to find suspects in that pool.
