You realize LaVell who is a Hall of Fame coach, and won a national championship
Averaged just under 9 wins a season? Playing WAC schedules and losing majority of his bowl games?

Was the program in bad shape post 1984 because he never reached the same heights? Or was the program in good hands because we were consistently good and things always need to line up for BYU to have truly special seasons (one coming much later in 96).

10+ wins, top 25 finish isn’t where BYU has been for any large stretch of time. The fact that Bronco did it about half the time with tougher schedules, and still won 7-9 games in “down years” is actually extremely consistent. He averaged as many wins as we’ve averaged during the best stretches of our history the last 45+ years, with tougher SOS, a more difficult landscape, and a stricter honor code.

To say he lowered his bar by averaging a 33 finish for over a decade when we now average 70 ignores all the data and facts. It just isn’t true.
