...11 bowl games in existence. That meant only the 22 best teams got invited to play. That number grew to 15 bowls by the end of the 70’s and 18 by the end of the 80’s. Bowl opponents were really good, typically teams that finished 2nd-4th in major conferences, frequently ranked in the top 15.
When Bronco was taking BYU to bowl games there were close to 40 bowls (with close to 80 teams going). The competition was significantly watered down. It’s intellectually dishonest and lazy analysis to even attempt to compare the 2 as though they were apples to apples.
Bronco is a good coach, just not in the same area code as Lavell.
