I don't think they need to. There are plenty of dollars that have been put into

the football program. The problem is not being able to secure the level of talent/coaching to take the program to the next level. I want to know why? We need to identify the things that are limiting the program and then determine what can be done to correct those things. I have my own opinions, which I list as follows:

1. Academic Restrictions - Preventing players that we would have gotten into BYU during LaVell period.

2. Money that can be spent to pay coaches

3. The way the Honor Code is administered

What I want to know.

1. Who actually makes the decisions. How much authority does TH really have? Are the decisions made by BOT? If so, then why the need for a University President or AD. Is it the President who makes the decisions? Why is he making it so difficult to bring in the caliber of players that are needed?

We have heard many times from past players, including Reno Mahe, that they never would have been admitted into BYU today. My question is why?

My proposed solution. One of the mission statements of the church is "To make bad men good and good men better." I believe that BYU football can be an outstanding vehicle to support this statement. Let the football team recruit and bring in these kids who come from tough environments but who want to improve their lives. Provide flexibility with admissions. (Yes, they have to meet NCAA requirements.) Assign mentors and tutors to help these kids assimilate. They'll bring their incredible talents and they will have an amazing experience in return, that will change their lives for the better. Whether they join the church or not.

I would like to see some transparency. If BYU, the BOT, whoever is making the decisions, is really not willing to let the football team do what it needs to do to improve then be honest about it. Stop taking big donors dollars who are expecting to see the program turn around.
