There are many companies that keep an ‘under qualified’ CEO in place because they are a good figurehead or ambassador for the company (for a myriad of reasons) but the ‘real work’ is done behind the scenes by capable people.
Some argue that Lavell operated this way. They say he surrounded himself with a more qualified staff which made him look like a better head coach. I don’t know that it’s an accurate assessment, but I’ve heard it from others.
