We need to not be scared and realize that the potential list of candidates are better than we casual fans know.

LaVell was a long-time Defensive Coordinator for a mediocre team. For all we know, Tuiaki could lead us to a National Championship. We all laugh at that based on the defensive performance of our team, but LaVell's teams sucked too. Head Coach is all about management, it requires a completely different skill set than a Coordinator. Just because you are an awesome coordinator doesn't mean you will succeed as a head coach.

My point is, we need NOT be terrified of a coaching carousel if we are striving to improve our product. What we need to be terrified of is the apathetic onset of accepting mediocrity and making excuses like BYU "can't compete". They Can. They Did. And they can again.
