I am glad we, as a society, are much more sensitive to the "R" word. When I used to use it as a kid, I never thought of it in terms of downs syndrome. It was a term synonymous with dumb. Now, if I had sat down and thought about it, I may have realized that some people could be hurt by it.

When someone says "refs suck," the most certainly mean the refs aren't doing a good job. If we stop and think what the words literally mean, we probably would not use the term at all. It is terrible.

It goes both ways. We should all try to understand that words can offend. We should also not look to be offended when people use words in ways that didn't intend to offend. If all of us would do those things, the world would be a better place.
