summary: BYU is tough to figure out with winning some tough games but losing
games they should have won.
Mandel did not predict BYU to become bowl-eligible at the start of the year, and now he predicts they will finish 6-6.
Mandel says they only go to the Hawaii bowl if Hawaii is not bowl-eligible (I wonder if that is factually true, seems inconsistent with BYU's announcements). He says that if Hawaii goes to the Hawaii bowl, then ESPN would find a slot for BYU in another bowl.
Mandel says he understands why BYU chooses independence, but from a football perspective he thinks they would be better off in the MWC. He gives the usual arguments we have seen many times on this board - chance to compete for a conference championship and a NY6 bowl instead of ending with anti-climatic gimme games.

there is no good argument for us moving to the MWC before conference realignment. There might be some arguments for it
