while I was getting ready to go to the Hawaii game and while that basketball game was still going so the BYU game wasn't on yet even though it had started. I noticed quite a lot of empty seats when they showed the stands.
If there is one thing that has interested me this year about utah it has been their waning fan support despite them having their best year in over a decade and since they've joined the pac12. Ute fans, especially those on CB, have made a big deal over the last several years about how they "always" sellout even though most of us knew they were just claiming that when the stadium wasn't really full. But it was close enough that they could reasonably claim they were filling that cracker box regularly.
But now they have announced plans for a very large stadium expansion and coincided that with their best year in a very long time and instead of packing the cracker box and proving the supposedly giant fanbase really exists and that the expansion was really needed they are playing in front of large numbers of empty seats every week.
I just find that interesting based on how it was previously trending. Why were they packing the place with average, or even below average, teams but as soon as they start to see some real success and announce they are investing big money the fans quit coming?
