in regards to driving assist technologies. Several articles and videos have come out comparing Tesla to Cadillac and Volvo. So far of the systems used to obtain L2 autonomy Tesla has the best solution. The proof of that is in what the cars are currently capable of doing. I'm not trying to argue that lidar will never catch up. Lidar paired with AI, or even Lidar paired with some car to car communication might become more reliable/safer than Teslas solution. I'm just arguing that of the current solutions available right now, Teslas is the best.
While Cadillac never said as much, when I was in training learning about the supercruise system Cadillac seemed to be very concerned about safety. Obviously a couple people have died using Teslas supercruise which is terrible and a result GM wants to avoid at all costs. But that hesitancy to push the boundaries of what is capable and then executing it in real life has kept Cadillac behind Tesla IMO.
The autopilot/supercruise comparison just mirrors the larger cultures that exist at each company. Tesla is new and upcoming and trying to win over new customers and push the boundaries of what a car can/should be, while GM is a very large global business that isn't pushing for wholesale change in the industry. They want to keep the status quo, which has seen them make tons of money on ICE truck and SUVs.
