“... beating G5 teams that BYU should beat.” Why the word “should?”

Many G5 teams, like San Diego State and Toledo, have just as much (or more) talent than BYU. Why should BYU never lose to them? And even a team with less talent can beat a team with more. If BYU should never lose to less talented G5 teams then shouldn’t BYU never win against more talented P5 teams?
