We will never know the "truth" because BYU will never be open about what went
on and the Big 12 has moved on and it is now irrelevant to them.
However, given BYU's love for all things BYUtv, there are many BYU fans, myself included, that will forever be of the opinion BYU botched negotiations by being too demanding over rebroadcast rights on BYUtv (which has been discussed ad nauseum here on CB) and other things rather than simply doing what TCU did and say "How high?" when the Big 12 said "Jump!".
As we have all seen, the "We have to avoid another broadcasting problem." concern turned out to be a non-issue and BYU blew it and things worked out quite nicely for TCU.
