My wife home schooled our 5 children and they in turn are home schooling our
grandchildren.

If done right, the end product is better than anything the public school system turns out. Our grandchildren read well by age 6. With Church associations, little league sports, high school sports and an occasional HS class such as chemistry or biology, they have ample opportunity for socialization, a concept all too often overhyped.

In terms of academics, our kids focus on a great books program and our oldest daughter--who took Latin at BYU--does a Latin class for her children and their cousins. Our oldest grandson received appointments to both the Naval Academy and USAFA and midway through his second year at USAFA is in the top 5 - 6 % of his class.

When we visited with the admissions office at USNA, they told us that home schoolers consistently outperform their public school counterparts on the SAT and ACT. Lastly, there are an ever increasing number of home schoolers receiving appointments to the service academies which is a good indication that they are neither socially awkward nor academically unprepared for the rigors of a SA.
