There aren't just those two extremes that you are creating in your argument...

It's not "full dictatorship" on one side, then "full USA freedom" on the other. Trump's actions and inactions have created consequences that might cost lives:

1. Trump fired the US Pandemic team two years ago, then never replaced them with any experts. That's slowed things down a bit understandably. https://www.snopes.com/fact-check/trump-fire-pandemic-team/

2. Even Republican Ted Cruz can see the issues with the lack of tests [Cruz doesn't mention the WHO test we could have copied and used, but Trump Administration should have readied tests sooner as other nations did.]
