There are discussions about this. There is a range of things going on. This might not be that bad or it might be really bad. You can make either case consistent with the observed data. We are making decisions without knowing how bad our not bad it is. Nor do we know how far along the curve we are. They have decided, as we do with disasters that it's better safe than sorry. Better to board up the windows and clear the streets and have the hurricane miss then to have a category 5 hit while everyone is at the park.
