I think you analysis is simplistic
Any analysis that does not look at the players is simplistic. Factors such as talent, experience, depth, and injuries need to be considered. The reason Mark Pope is a superhero among Cougar fans is that he convinced Childs to return, brought the WAC player of the year with him, and added Alex Barcello. Pope did some good things to develop players, but without those three players, BYU wouldn't have qualified for the NIT.

I think Bronco left the football team short in talent and depth. Kalani may deserves criticism for his failure to successfully recruit many of the highest ranked LDS kids, but he has significantly improved the talent and depth of the program.

I believe the win/loss record is a trailing indicator. The leading indicator is the talent, experience, and depth of the team — especially at quarterback. I think the 2019 team had the potential to be KS best team by far, but excessive injuries kept some of the most talented players off the field.

I think the 2020 and 2021 teams will have the best talent, experience, and depth of any teams fielded by Kalani. If BYU doesn't suffer from excessive injuries, the next two years should be good. If Kalani can't average 9 wins over the next two years, I will be ready for a change.
