for starters, that's never a reason to keep the status quo...
...if you think the coach stinks. That's why you go through the vetting/interviewing process, to find "the guy". Did anyone think Lavell Edwards was going to be the GOAT at BYU when he was promoted from DC to HC? I was in elementary school back then and it was pre-internet so I could only offer conjecture but I doubt many aside from his own mother thought that. Same thing for Bronco when he was offered the BYU job. Except for the group of defensive players who went to bat for him he was not considered a lock to be a good HC. BYU took a risk in hiring an inexperienced guy. He did a good job.

If it's time for Kalani to go we have no idea who the next guy will be and if that guy will beat great, good or stink. You do your due diligence and take a shot.

Personally I don't think we're at that point yet for Kalani to be replaced but I totally understand why some people think we are. I think this coming season though is a watershed year for him as the HC for several reasons that are specific to BYU. He will be starting his 5th year and has now had time to get his recruits through their missions, shake off the mission rust and give them time to get back on the field and get onto the depth chart. His first recruiting class will be sophomores and juniors and his second class will be freshman and sophomores. Many of these players are returning players now with experience, including a 2 yr returning starter at QB.

This is similarly where the program was in transition when Bronco took over in 2005. We had John Beck who was a returning 2 yr starter heading into his junior year and a 2 deep that was experienced, had been hardened with many starting as freshman and sophomores and now as juniors were ready to prove themselves (although I don't think the program is as full of as much future NFL talent as it was when Bronco took over).

This coming season and next should see the program take big steps forward.
