The science is far from settled in fish and pain. There was also a study that

showed fish are really good at getting fish hooks out. This was for pike. I don’t know for the big fish like sharks. Also, fish hooks do not rust out, that would take years. So if you think your hook you left in the fish will rust away and disintegrate, it won’t.
