I'll be relocating from Utah county to Austin TX in the next few months for a
New job. My wife and I are both from southern California and we've very much enjoyed aspects of Utah - outdoors, mountains, clean, reasonable traffic, good people, etc.

But one thing we can't stand is the LDS culture and families. One example: We have a lot of good "friends" in the neighborhood and ward. We were talking with one a few days before the 4th of July and both of us stated we had no plans due to covid and avoiding older family members. As a normal person I said "cool why don't we get together and I can smoke some meat and the kids can play?". The wife's response was..."well not ON the 4th, but we could do the 3rd maybe".... literally right after they just said they had no plans!! Guess even if they tell you they have no plans unless your family you aren't holiday material. Smart tho to celebrate the 4th of July on the 3rd of July.

Additionally even when we invite people over for holidays to try and get the neighborhood together, we are always rejected due to family events - and invite for us to attend their event is never reciprocated. Oh well, we tried.

We love Utah for many reasons but are excited to start our new adventure elsewhere.
