"Throughout its history." How about since BYU actually had a brand to protect?
The '99-'04 years are viewed as the dark days of BYU Football because of the change to the Navy helmets & uniforms, even though LaVell was still the head coach for the first two of those seasons. Anything done pre-LaVell isn't relevant to this discussion because no one ties those years to BYU's brand.
