We're comparing apples to oranges here..
BYU did a complete rebrand in '99. New colors. New logo. Completely new brand. That was at a time when people would flip through their TV channels to see what game is on, if they didn't have their copy of TV Guide handy. That was a huge mistake in my opinion (I've heard Val defend it and others in marketing defend it, to me it will always be a mistake). People didn't recognize us on TV, and it was just ugly. Even our tan logo that would show up on SportsCenter wasn't recognizable. I'll always love that Bronco came in and fixed it. When BYU trotted on to the field in 2005 in our classic, stretch Y, iconic white helmets I literally wiped a tear. If BYU was talking about rebranding again, I don't think anyone on this board would be in favor of it.

This isn't that. We now live in a world where the NFL, NBA, and CFB all rotate through uniforms every year. It's part of marketing. It's part of the build up to the game. It's part of the social media campaign. It's part of planning what to wear to the game. And it's a huge part of recruiting. If you listen to Zach talk about wearing his headband, the clean look of the all white unis, and how NFL greats like Aaron Rogers don't have the same "swag" because his jersey isn't as tight, has loose sleeves, and his facemask and chin strap looks like a kickers... this stuff matters to them.

We may wear the navy helmet once against a team like USF or Toledo. Maybe the chrome against Arizona State on ESPN. And that might be it for the year. Then BYU will sell a bunch of mini helmets in stores across Utah and online, and they'll have a full display of unis to show recruits as they walk through the facilities. I have the mini helmet with the American Flag we wore in 2014 on my desk right now. We are literally one of the last teams in the country to get on this train, but I'm glad BYU finally did.
