There is correlation, but not causation. More important is wins over tourney
caliber teams--which now they also attempt to measure using Q1 wins. The committee explicitly states this but people still try to rely on a single metric instead of the entire picture.

BYU was going to be a 5-6 seed last year despite being #9 in NET, and #13 in Kenpom not because the committee wanted to underseed them, but because they were 3-5 in Q1 games and 5-3 in Q2 games. Other teams ahead of them had better records in those quadrants.

Two years ago, Iowa st was ranked 15 in KenPom, got a 6 seed, Wofford was ranked 18, got a 7 seed, Texas ranked 25, was not selected.
