the very first round of balloting which would typically mean they were considered one of the top 36 teams by the committee or better as there would've likely been at most 36 teams included after that 1st round. However, when it came to actually seeding the teams there was an AD from a conference who had some teams on the lower end of the at-large field who was very vocal in pointing out the "flaws" of BYU's schedule presumably in an effort to raise the status of the teams from her conference. This ultimately resulted in BYU moving down the seed list to where they eventually landed as a 12 seed when in reality they should have been at least 3 or 4 seeds higher.
