The cuts over the past 5 years (on average) have been players that were absolutely buried on the depth chart for years with little to no hope for playing time. Looking at the list, they have been mostly Bronco recruits that these coaches didn't want. As soon as a players gets an injury, the coaches generally offer them a medical release. I really don't see that as a bad outcome that the student keeps his full-ride scholarship and doesn't need to sacrifice time into football anymore. I don't know if it's that helpful for the player to be on the practice squad and never get into a game.
The biggest issue comes along when some player wants to be on the team, but just isn't very good. He's a dead weight to the program to stay on scholarship. That's where feelings get hurt and the player enters the transfer portal, but that doesn't happen very often.
There have also been some meetings where the coaches asked for volunteers to quit and certain players have accepted.
