IMO, 6 backs belong in tier 1: Unga, Williams, Staley, Jenkins, Willis, Brown
There's various ways to measure RB's, but my preferred measurement is simple: If I had to choose ONE player to add to my team, which one would I choose?
Answer:
Not Staley - because it's doubtful he would last the season.
Not Willis - he was also quite injury prone.
Not Jenkins - because he's not an every down back.
That leaves me with Brown, Unga, and Williams...
Brown was a great back at BYU - durable and well-rounded. But, IMO, Unga did everything Brown could do, and was better at it.
Now I have a really hard time choosing between Unga and Williams. Unga was bigger and more physical between the tackles, while Williams was better on the edge. Both were great blockers. Both were great receivers. Both possessed excellent vision. Williams' top-end speed (while not elite) made him a greater home-run threat. Unga was almost unstoppable in short-yardage plays.
I really can't decide on this one. But with a gun to my head I think I would pick....
