I mean this the same way in a debate on who is the GOAT at QB for BYU
(a different thread can be started if someone wants to discuss QB further)
For those who actually watched McMahon, Young, and Detmer (arguably the top three ever), I have a hard time seeing how McMahon is not number one. They all had similar great seasons or results (though Detmer had more ints and blow out losses) and Young only had one great season (though the other season he had was still solid so he was not a one hit wonder by any stretch), but McMahon was consistent greatness. You can say Detmer was too over multiple seasons, but when comparing McMahon and Detmer, McMahon had much better psychical ability in addition to multiple great seasons and stats comparisons. I would guess maybe only 1/3 of people on CB actually witnessed the Detmer years, and much fewer witnessed the McMahon and Young years.
So I think there is also a recency bias when people compare people like Luke and Jamaal in favor of Jamaal by those who saw Jamaal buy not Luke. Even then if the debate about stats and such is sort of even, Luke was just more talented, hands down.
For the record, I was and am a huge fan of all the guys mentioned here, so please do not feel like I am putting any one of them down.
