It's funny that people keep turning to things like speed and yards per carry. Well how do those things become what they are or produce?
Why isn't anyone talking about how nearly all of his highlights are just blasting through massive wide wide open holes like D'Anthony Thomas and Kenjon Barner did at Oregon. Imagine having a massive athletic OL, a QB like Doman, and a system that alway always got you the ball out in space for you to straight line it to the EZ.
Let's be honest for a second. The way they formed things around Doman and Luke was genius. It was looking at personnel and finding the best possible way to use them. And because of it, he didn't have to earn his yards the way others did. He just didn't. Why is Jamaal going for 1400 yds the way he did, with the supporting cast and coaches he had, really that much less special than Luke getting the ball and just beating everyone in a foot race?
Am I oversimplifying it? Yes. Just like how everyone else is. He flat out wasn't required to get his yards the way Harvey and especially Jamaal did. I really don't think he would have been any more successful than them in their exact situations. Shoot, unfortunately he probably would have crumbled running between the tackles like they did. That's what makes this complex. It's not as simple as "oh he had another gear so he's the best."
