How many school days SHOULD we have?
New Mexico is trying to respond to a national study that says our kids need more school days. The US is typically something like 180 days, most of Europe is in the 190-200 days, and alot of Asia is 210-220 and even up to 250.

New Mexico is looking at a jump to 190 for everyone, and maybe as high as 205 for elementary kids.

First, I think New Mexico needs to try to do something, since our schools are always ranked 48 to 51 or 52 in almost every meaningful national statistic. So trying to add 10 more days to 190 would probably help. BUT I doubt that the number of DAYS is really the big problem ... it other systemic issues that make the schools rank so low.

As a country, we're not really all that agrarian anymore, needing the kids to work the fields at harvest time to feed the family for the long cold winter.... so adding more school days should be doable.

Is 190 school days or 205 school days the right approach? (Disclaimer, our youngest graduates High School in about 20 days ... so my life is not effected one way or another on this....)
