Didn’t they pick up the flag?
I remember the flag being thrown, but no play was penalized. They were supposed to have given BYU the ball back, if it was a late hit. Which would have given BYU a 15 yard closer, untimed final play. This could have allowed for a field goal attempt, or another chance at a TD, with Wilson’s one interception taken off the books.
If it was a blocking penalty or personal foul for “ unnecessary roughness “, it would have been enforced on the kickoff of the 2nd half. They kicked from the regular spot, so no penalty given. Gunther or the other players involved, should have been kicked out of the game. He ended up making several games deciding plays in the 2nd half, in which the national consensus seems to be that he should have been ejected from. A quick google search showed that fans of other universities and national writers, were all taken back with the no call and lack of ejection.
