I agree with your analysis. This ruling doesn' bring any money into programs, it
to a greater or lesser degree will drain money out. Since most programs*, including P5, already lose money, what keeps them in the game? Possibly nothing, unless there is an "amateur" league where images aren't used commercially. The new world will be made up of the NFL, college semi-pro, and the vast majority of schools in an "amateur" program.

This may likely end up having college semi-pro competing directly for eyeballs with the NFL. Guess who loses.

Personally, I'd love to see such an outcome. It may result in the actual best teams being sought in conference so they will get more fans.

Of course, we don't know yet how ESPN will bend this all to their benefit.

*Sometime in the past few years there was a report that only 22 colleges/universities had athletic programs that were break-even or better.
Many football programs at those schools may just go the Connecticutt route.
