I look back and don’t think that anything beyond basic arithmetic (add, subtract, multiply, and divide, along with basic measurement and geometric angles) was worth my time to learn in school. Those are the only things I’ve ever needed to know for my life or my jobs. I don’t think I’m unique. The vast majority of jobs don’t require any math knowledge past arithmetic.
Kudos to engineers, accountants, finance experts, physics pros, etc. You have very specialized professions, and yet somehow the rest of us were required to pull our hair out learning stuff we have not used even once since school ended, with the possible exception of helping our children with their algebra/calculus homework as they pull their hair out.
American education needs a re-design in some areas, and mathematics is one of those.
