Who cares how many centimeters are in a kilometer. Who cares how many inches are in a mile. I don’t need to know that information. It seems less than intelligent to measure kilometers with a ruler.
There is no practical reason to overhaul the entire system to understand there are 100,000 centimeters in a kilometer. I don’t know what 100,000 of anything looks like because cm is an inappropriate unit of measurement for a kilometer.
Yes, the metric system has several advantages over the imperial system. But basing measurements off of something tangible has its benefits too. Numbers are intended to make the intangible, tangible- and the logic behind imperial units does this.
Conversion isn’t that significant of a factor in daily use- because it isn’t very smart to use feet to measure miles in most cases... you should use the appropriate unit to begin with.
It’s not true that conversion is ALWAYS better using metric. In construction and carpentry there are some key fractions that the imperial system allows for that the imperial system does not. Guess what 2x4s and 4x4s can divide easily into?
