I compare it to a personal situation.
My business partner and I have the same health share company (in lieu of insurance). Our wives both had babies last fall. We are both still out over $10k waiting to be reimbursed. In the meantime I told him I was switching. He told me I was crazy, if I switch they have an excuse not to reimburse me. Well, it has been a year. I’m out the $10k. I can either switch to a better program moving forward and maybe not get reimbursed, or stay on and keep hoping I do but never knowing if I will.
BYU is out the $10k, they paid the price and played the 2 home games. They can sit and hope ND comes to Provo. Or they can move on from the series/schedule a neutral game (make the change) and move on to other things. At this point, the 2 games played in South Bend are a sunk cost, no point in pride and waiting it out. Play a good game on neutral turf. Move on.
Other programs aren’t going to magically never come to Provo because we accepted one neutral game. We already have to trade 2 for 1’s to play them anyway.
