It was pretty silly.
Dowis would go under center, flap his arms for the crowd to quiet, and then turn to the official and complain. The crowd started making the shush sound until Dowis would go under center, that's when we exploded again. BYU was threatened with a penalty at one point.
Edit: I'm getting old. Now that I think about it, BYU did get penalized.

Yes BYU was penalized for crowd noise. Also, Dowis died while driving drunk about 5 years ago. He had a BAC of 0.233.
