The BYU fan was a twit - but didn't throw any punches.
He went and tackled the cheerleader and then turned to the stands and help up his hands in victory, only to be tackled back by the cheerleader, who proceeded to kick his butt.
I don't think he was every trying to "attack" or harm the cheerleader, just stop him from running around with the flag in celebration of scoring. But he learned that when others aren't aware of your intentions and defend themselves it can be painful.
