The question boils down to simply that. It's really that simple of a question.
Players like to wear different uniforms. It's swag. This is not 1950.
BYU is not Alabama. Alabama gets recruits because they're Alabama and they win. Oregon basically became a college football power because of Nike and embracing a new dynamic.
So I will ask you again, would you rather get recruits and win games...or wear one color?
Because in today's college football world, unless you are Alabama, or maybe even Penn State, if you don't play the college football game, you create a recruiting disadvantage.
Is it really that important to you? Or would you rather win?
I get it, in 1950 the question of using uniforms as a fashion statement would have been only important to women and gay men. But it's not 1950. The world has changed.
Today's players under the age of 95 actually like swag. Let them like it. Embrace it. It hurts no one and it attracts recruits. We've won like 15 out of our last 16 games and have earned our way into the Big 12.
I know. "They're not in the afternoons anymore." And we have about a bajillion channels and it's increasingly hard to attract fans to sports when they're overwhelmed by other entertainment options.
The current system is working for BYU. Let it work. Don't be the "they're not in the afternoon anymore guy."
