It depends
Whitt is not retiring this year. I know there's discussion but that's laughable. He LOVES the current team and how young they are. At the earliest, two years. Unless family health or something comes up along those lines.

I suppose if he reached the playoffs or won a Rose Bowl, there might be some milestone to go out on...but those aren't easy tasks. And if Utah got there, just like Urban with the BCS, it makes it easier from a recruiting and coaching standpoint to stay competitive.

I see him going another 5 years but not much beyond that. BYU Is seeing with Kalani and Weber with Hill that the model can be sustained and replicated. (Whitt would also stay in a consulting role similar to Erickson or Pease.)

Key to Utah's success is the poly DL. With Scalley, that doesn't change. Too many relatives, too many grad assistants to help and too much NFL success with Scalley's record to be ignored.

Next is the cornerback. If Utah can balance DL and CB with NFL-potential talent, the defense will continue as it always has.

Scalley has helped coach so many in the NFL and Shah can recruit elite talent...that I think that part is sustainable.

That's why Barton was such a key land. If Utah can turn LB into an NFL or all-P12 turnstile to complement the DL and the D secondary, that's where Utah can get scary good.

The offense is a different story. Ludwig will stay until Whitt retires IMO. He might stay one more year to help stabilize the new coach. Utah has always been limited by the QB. Rising's play and the types of guys Utah is now recruiting every year, is one of the main reasons why UU guys are so bullish.

Does that help?
