give himself a chance at more havoc. Early in drives if it pays off the opponent is now behind the sticks and easier to potentially side out with his base defense. But if it doesn’t pay off if they are clear back at their own side of the field it’s improbable it costs you much more than the long first downs he is already giving up.
Late in drives the opponent is likely to score anyway, but a well disguised corner blitz could force it to be a field goal, cause a fumble, cause an early throw and pick. Or it could lead to the score you were likely to give up anyway since they are knocking on the door.
I don’t think the guy needs to turn into a constant river boat gambler. I do see he is working with a ragtag group of unknown guys.
But you don’t help yourself by being constantly predictable. I get that when he sends linebackers they are just bull rushing and not getting home. But an off the edge corner or safety blitz or up the middle delayed blitz through a gap just once in a while like Bronco used to do would do wonders for him.
