So the kids learn to overcome performance anxiety, which won't come doing it
just for the family. That can translate to giving speeches, presentations, etc. later on in life. It's the skill of getting up on a stage, being scared spitless, and doing it. And learning how to handle when it goes well and not well.

There can be other ways of developing this, but music recitals are one of the easiest, perhaps, at younger ages until they get to high school and have things like debate teams.
