My nephew was playing volleyball last week and took a spike to the face that
resulted in a grade 4 hyphema--blood filling up over half his iris. My daughter was with him and got to be the one that took him to the ER.
He's at high risk of permanently losing vision in that eye--7 days after the injury his vision is still very cloudy, and he has strict instruction from the doctor to not do ANYTHING this week, especially reading. He has to keep his eye stationary as any movement will increase risk of damage while his eye tries to heal.

He's a freshman at BYU-I, and here's where it seems crazy to me. I thought professors at BYU-I, of all places, would be especially sympathetic and helpful. But I hear from my sister-in-law that all of his teachers except one have told him that they'll give him until this Saturday to get his work done and they can't be any more lenient than that.
Seems absolutely crazy to me that they're not more sympathetic with the very serious trauma, physical and emotional that occurred, and don't seem to care or understand that the doctor was very emphatic that he not read anything at all this week. Our family is fasting this week for his eye to somehow heal and for him not to be permanently blinded, while professors at BYU-I expect him to get his work done anyway....I struggle to understand the disconnect.
