and this really surprises me. Are these on-campus professors? We have always been instructed to be understanding and flexible in situations like this, and the instructors I supervised consistently took this approach. I know this because I was part of the escalation path if there was ever a grievance filed against an instructor. He should definitely escalate the situation and I would be surprised if they don't give him the flexibility he needs.
