BYU had a nationally televised ESPN game with a 10:15 ET start against Arizona St and got 1.49M viewers
Utah also had a nationally televised ESPN game with a 10 ET start against Arizona St and got ONLY 1.39M viewers
BYU had a game stuck on FS1 at 3:30 vs Washington St and got 466k
A few weeks later Utah also got a game on FS1 (Friday 10:30 ET vs Stanford) and got only 452k
Actually, looking bigger picture, BYU had 4 games start 10PM ET or later on ESPN and averaged 1.35M viewers for those. For the 3 games Utah had on ESPN at 10PM ET or later, they only averaged 1.24M viewers
It's clear, just looking at the numbers, that BYU absolutely dominates Utah in viewership and the two shouldn't be discussed in the same breath for what they bring as far as viewers go. Utes want to point out and brag that they got 16.6M viewers for their Rose Bowl, but there's a real possibility that BYU in the same situation could have potentially had 17M. That's what being a national brand means.
