You're assuming they're working less.
The teachers I know are working MORE - and aren't getting paid any more.

With COVID, my daughter began working an extra 2 hours later each night (minimum) every day - because there is nearly always someone out sick that she's having to follow up with and help them get their assignments because they couldn't possibly get on the school website and find those assignments themselves.

I am sure there are some teachers who are skating by - like there probably are folks doing the same in your industry when things get hard.

But assuming that all teachers are, and making assumptions about their jobs when you really have no idea, would be the wrong approach to take.
