My wife had a conversation with the parent of a child who was upset their...
...child was marked "absent" for not attending online classes for a week.
Parent says "we went to virtual school! They aren't there!"
Wife explains "Virtual school just means online - they still have to show up for class at the time class is being held via video conferencing."
Parent: "How come nobody told me?!?"
Wife: "You mean you didn't get the email, text message, or phone call? Our records show the email was delivered to you one XXXX date and time...The phone call and text messages were delivered on XXXX."
It's not every parent - but it's enough that you don't wonder why the students aren't paying attention in class - their parents wouldn't be either.

The issue right now is teachers being sick and there not being enough subs to cover all the classes. At our high school
