Bob Vance All-American
So many to choose from. I was invited up to Varsity baseball spring training. Being a young frosh, they made

me switch positions during workouts to 1st base from my usual 3rd.  Coach was hitting grounders to both sides of the field with the second string catcher catching throws from 1B/2B, and our D1 committed starting catcher taking throws from 3B/SS.

Our coach was a little crazy, and basically hit grounders in practice about as hard he could swing it - it was a little frightening to be honest.  But it kind of revved people up.  You had to be aware.

I was so excited to prove that I belonged on varsity that I remember being proud of the short hop I fielded from the coach, and wanted to throw the ball as hard as I could back to the catcher and really make that glove snap.  But, true to form, I also did not want to set up the throw given how I didn't want to look slow with the reflexes and all.

I threw that ball with all I had in a cool looking 3/4 throwing motion.  The ball went on release on a frozen rope right past the second string catcher and squarely into the nuts of the D1 starting catcher who was facing the 3rd basemen.  He was down for the count for practice that day, and for the next game.  He couldn't breathe for a couple of minutes.

I was still kind of proud of that throw, for it's amazing speed, fluidity, and all, and I was strangely proud that I did a little damage to that catcher (he was kind of full of himself anyway).  I enjoyed that play over and over again in my mind as I played out the rest of my year .... on JV.
